LIHUE — Kauai police captured an escapee from the Kauai Community Correctional Center Wednesday night and were searching for a second man considered dangerous.
Lifetime Stand inmates Kamoeli’i K. Kolo and Joshua Kaimana Preston left the facility during open recreation, according to a notice from Hawaii Department of Public Safety.
Police were notified by KCCC about 1:15 p.m. The search for the escaped inmates involved about 20 officers and Air 1.
Preston was apprehended at the Wailua Golf Course about 5:30 p.m., according to the county.
Preston, 36, is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Kolo, 35, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Both inmates face additional escape charges when found.
Preston is a sentenced misdemeanant with a release date of March 25, 2018.
Kolo is is a sentenced misdemeanant with a release date of May 21, 2018.
Kolo should be considered dangerous and should not be apprehended. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
Both are community custody inmates in a furlough program. Community custody is the lowest classification status.
Lifetime Stand is a reintegration program, in a dorm-style building that focuses on offender reintegration services and a work release program for sentenced inmates who will be released on the island of Kauai.
